Automobiles in Germany's City Discovered Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers reported they were contacted by a man who noticed a automobile in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

City officials announced they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

A high-ranking representative commented the incident left him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
